Fogden Wildlife Photographs
Michael and Patricia, Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve Both Michael and Patricia began their careers in zoology as research scientists. Michael worked on seasonality and population dynamics of birds in the rain forests of Borneo while Patricia was lecturing at the University of Hong Kong. From 1968 onwards they have worked together. Their collaboration began with work in the Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda where they did research on the comparative ecology and physiology of resident and migrant warblers. This was followed in 1973 with work on range management problems in the Chihuahua and Sonora Deserts in Mexico, particularly on the problem of competition for forage between cattle and wildlife.

In 1978 they resigned from their research posts to become freelance writers and photographers, specializing in natural history subjects. They are based in Costa Rica where they have photographed the flora and fauna extensively. But they also enjoy working in deserts so, over the years they have built up a superb collection of images from rain forests and deserts all over the world. Their research backgrounds are reflected in their photographic projects as they concentrate on rather "scientific" subjects and often collaborate with research workers. They are currently documenting climate change in collaboration with John Campbell and Alan Pounds with their study area in the cloud forest around their home at Monteverde, in Costa Rica.
